Crisis situation Martha’s Vineyard Hospital is feeling the pinch of the Island’s shrinking housing market. In January alone, the hospital had 19 potential employees say no to job offers because they feared they wouldn’t be able to afford to live on the Island. Meanwhile, the hospital continues to lose employees for the same reason. Editor
George Brennan spoke to CEO Denise Schepici for a state of the hospital and a look ahead. You can read it here.
Slight increase COVID cases had nowhere to go but up after there were just two positive results to start the month of March. With families returning from a week’s vacation and the mask mandates lifted indoors on the Island, it should be no surprise that there was a slight increase in the number of cases. But as the Island boards of health report, the number is well below the threshold set by the CDC. Editor George Brennan also has this update.
Ride like the wind A bill that was sponsored by state Rep. Dylan Fernandes, D-Falmouth, and recently passed by the House, would give municipalities the ability
to purchase electricity from offshore wind projects. The offshore wind bill also calls for creation of a trust fund that would provide for workforce housing and improvements to the electrical grid. Reporter Rich Saltzberg has this story.

scene" and one of the charges may be fleeing from the police!!!!"

Drawn to architecture Jack Ryan’s intensely detailed pen-and-ink artwork is on display at the West Tisbury library. All his work is based on vintage photos from books, old postcards, and more recently, the internet. The library is presenting approximately 40 of his intimate 8 x 10 inch or 8 x 14 inch drawings, opening up a world of wonders. Even the most minute details are created by stippling tiny dots, which takes great patience and precision to master. Read Abby Remer’s story on the exhibit and the artist here, and check out the art at the library.
