Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
Today is just a wild assortment of holidays. First off it’s National Drink Wine Day so enjoy a glass tonight. It’s also National Cow Milked While Flying in an Airplane Day because on this day in 1930 Elm Farm Ollie was the first cow to fly in an airplane and be milked on an airplane. Her milk was sealed in paper cartons and then parachuted to spectators below. It’s also National Battery Day (how’s that pair doing in your remote?), Thumb Appreciation Day (thanks evolution), and Pluto Day (gone from official planet status, but not forgotten). There will be no Minute on Monday, but we’ll be back Tuesday. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Quote of the Day
"This virus is kind of like a wildfire, even when we are doing all the right things. These children are actually terrified to communicate with other people when they don’t have masks. I think it’s time to give people choices, of course, but it’s also time to start living our lives again."— Morgan Douglas, a parent, said the students should be more involved in the mask conversation

Hot Topic Comment
Commenter R. Scott Patterson wants to see the bill allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain their driver’s license: "Let’s hope it gets to Gov’s desk and he signs it."

Hot Topic Letter
John Hough wrote to pay tribute to Jack Shea. "Readers of the Martha’s Vineyard Times may remember how warmly and charitably Jack Shea reviewed my fiction. He had my back, as the other Vineyard weekly did not."
Today: Val Estabrook leads a Virtual Children’s Art Class for ages 11 to 14 via the West Tisbury library. Start them young, that’s what I always say. 5 pm. –Connie Berry

I haven’t seen this movie, "The Worst Person in the World," but I have read the review. It sounds like it might be funny and maybe a little risque. (I was going to type "naughty," but that word always sounds wrong.) Read Brooks Robards review here. M.V. Film Center. 7:30 pm. –C.B.

This weekend: Janette Vanderhoop leads Virtual Yoga for All Ages on Saturday morning, 10  to 11 am. I love yoga. I’ve never done it, I just like that it exists. The Family Center offers a Winter Story Walk at the Ag Hall. Bring the kids. 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Explore the winter landscape of Chappaquiddick’s only wildlife refuge on this open-air, over-sand adventure. That sounds awesome doesn’t it? It’s a Winter Safari. 12 pm. Join Tracy Thorpe at the Chilmark library for Writing for Young People. Great idea if you are working on a picture book, middle grade or young adult story, or nonfiction for young people. 2 pm. The Red House hosts a free Movie Night with the recovery community. I love the word "free." 6pm. –C.B.

On Sunday, pick up a Craft Bag for Kids, Teens, or Adults at the Vineyard Haven library. Each bag contains supplies needed to make the craft. 10 am to noon. David Vanderhoop will speak to some common threads in the highly diverse Indigenous Spiritual Experience at the Unitarian Universalist Church. Nanauwe will provide music with relatable songs she has written. 11 am. I am stopping there on purpose because you know what? I just want to hang out with my family on Sunday, cooking a little soup, doing a little kitchen dancing. And rejoicing in the fact that it’s a three-day weekend. –C.B.
